Location

Your trip begins in Medan in Northern Sumatra. Many
international airlines fly to Medan from Singapore, Malaysia or other
Indonesian cities. Here you will be met at the airport by by our English
speaking staff and transferred to a charter plane that will fly you to Guningsitoli
in  Nias. The Pondok Rahmat Children’s home is just five minutes drive from
the airport. You will be staying in a nearby hotel until guest accommodation is
completed at the home. Here you will spend the “purpose” part of your holiday.
Each day will be spent working with  the
children of the home, helping to build, garden and help the children practice
their English. If you have a specific skill to share such as playing an
instrument or painting and drawing, the children would be thrilled to have you
teach them.

How long you stay and work depends on you and your itinerary,
but we suggest a minimum of three days, from here you will head down to
Lagundri, out to the Hinako Islands or up to Afulu depending on your group and
your desires. You can do all three if you choose! You will be travelling by
road and then by local boat out to Asu (if you are heading to the Hinako
Islands) We can also arrange trips to mainland Sumatra to the Orangutan
rehabilitation centre at Bukit Lawang, or Lake Toba.
