CALL FOR EMERGENCY RELIEF HELP - Padang Earthquake

Dear Friends, It was with heavy hearts that we saw the images of the destruction of Padang on our televisions just a few days ago, but already those scenes have faded as other news takes precedence. For the people of Padang, the earthquakes that hit on the afternoon of the 30 Sept and the morning of the 1st October are still all too real. The death toll is now over 1,000 and expected to climb. Many homes, businesses, schools, shops and hospitals are destroyed and the community struggles to maintain a sense of normality amidst the chaos. People are sleeping under tarpaulins and cooking outdoors, the city is covered with dust and debris. It will be many months and maybe even years before Padang recovers completely.

Padang was our home for four years and the birth place of our two youngest children ( Mahlia and Sunny) we have many friends there who are currently suffering.

Leap / Yayasan Indo Jiwa will respond with emergency aid to be distributed by our friends who are on the ground in Padang and are working together with the combined relief agencies. We will purchase tarpaulins, cooking utensils, building materials and hygiene needs here in Medan and send them by road to Padang where they will be met and distributed.

Please help us to help the people of Padang by contributing financially to this appeal.

We are currently assessing if LEAP/ Yayasan Indo Jiwa will be involved in the long term rebuilding efforts. But for now the focus is on emergency aid.
